Weiss Tech Hockey is committed to developing hockey in Utah at all levels of the game. We focus on three general areas in order to fulfill this objective:

1. Coaching:
We must develop more coaches, of a higher quality

2. Player Skills:
Our coaches must lay a solid skills foundation for all players and continue to build upon it throughout the years

3. Participation:
It is essential that new players are continuously introduced to hockey at all levels and are provided the opportunity to succeed.

Hockey skills, like many other skills, must be aquired step by step over time. Young players must first learn the basics of skating, stopping, and edge control before they can stickhandle effectively. They need basic stickhandling skills to be able to pass properly. These skills must be built, and added upon as players improve and mature. Weiss Tech Hockey refers to this process as the Hockey Hierarchy of Learning.

Players must aquire the necessary Individual Skills before moving on to Team Skills. Once Team Skills have been developed sufficiently, Team Systems and Team Strategy can be learned.

Over the past five years, Utah hockey has experienced tremendous growth, especially at the High School level. However, this rapid growth in number of players has caused a shortage in the amount of high quality coaching available. For our players to achieve their full potential, hockey must be developed at all levels. We must provide more coaches with high quality training. We must teach our players correct fundamentals from the first time they step on the ice. And we must continue to introduce more young players to the game of hockey.
